Catalog Assistant

A Catalog Assistant and School of Law staff member since 1997, Diane Wurst catalogs new titles; maintains the law library bibliographic database, which includes researching and transferring the bibliographic records for all new acquisitions; and trains and supervises student cataloging assistants. She previously worked in the circulation department at the Wright Memorial Public Library in Oakwood. Ms. Wurst said the opportunity to work behind the scenes at a library attracted her to the University of Dayton, but her favorite aspect of her job is the people she works with.

Ms. Wurst attended the University of Dayton and Dayton Art Institute as a fine arts student, though she married before graduating. “Back then employers only looked at your art portfolio and didn’t care if you had a degree,” she said. Ms. Wurst worked as a fashion illustrator for Rike’s department store in Dayton and a cartographer for the city before later starting an architectural illustration business in Indianapolis with her husband. Despite her extensive background in art, she admits she hasn’t created any masterpieces in awhile. “My drawing board is still sitting there waiting for me,” she said.

Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, going to art museums, traveling, and reading. Ms. Wurst particularly enjoys historical novels.
