An opportunity to reflect on the intersection of spirituality and the law will take place on Sunday, September 28, when UDSL hosts a Red Mass to ask for God’s blessing on the work of the Dayton legal community for the coming year. The service will be held at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Church, 411 E. Second St.
This will be the third year that UDSL has hosted the Mass, which legal professionals and academics nationwide hold annually to request guidance from the Holy Spirit for all who seek justice. The custom originated in Europe in the 13th century and today is practiced in dioceses throughout the United States. Red Masses usually coincide with the opening of the U.S. Supreme Court on the first Monday in October. Members of Congress, the U.S. Supreme Court and other government officials have a Red Mass annually in the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C.
