The Academic Excellence Program (AEP) is part of the law school’s effort to diversify the population of practicing attorneys by ensuring that persons who have historically been underrepresented in the legal profession develop the skills necessary to succeed and excel in law school.
AEP began with an orientation program from August 10-14, 2009. During AEP Orientation, students are introduced to the methods of instruction and testing employed in law school that differ drastically from the methods most students encounter in undergraduate and other graduate programs. Students also participate in sessions on effective class preparation, critical reading, case briefing, legal writing and time and stress management.
Once the regular semester begins, AEP participants attend weekly sessions focused on the development and improvement of legal analysis and exam writing skills through the use of handouts, practice problems and practice exams.
