Leaves

Leave of absence - Occasionally, circumstances arise that make it necessary for a student to request a leave from his or her legal studies for a semester or a year. In such cases, the student should follow the same procedure as that for requesting to withdraw. Again, the student’s written request for a leave must be submitted before the student will be withdrawn from classes and considered on a leave of absence and must be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. A student who takes a leave of absence should also be aware that the Juris Doctor degree must be awarded within five years of the student’s initial matriculation.

Studying in absentia - Any student considering studying in absentia must make the request to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs as soon as possible. The request must be in writing and must thoroughly explain the reason for the request. Requests to study in absentia are granted only in rare cases. The opportunity to study in absentia is subject to certain restrictions as defined in the Policy Manual. An administrative fee of $780.00 will be assessed each term of study away from the University of Dayton School of Law during the 2006-07 academic year.
