The Honorable Mary Katherine Huffman

Judge Mary Katherine Huffman has been a Judge with the General Division of the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court since 2002. Judge Huffman has served as the Drug Court judge since January, 2007, and previously served as the court’s Non-Support Court judge for two years. Prior to her judicial service, Judge Huffman was a partner in the firm of Huffman, Landis & Weaks and served as Special Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General. Judge Huffman was also an active participant in the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project.
 
Judge Huffman received her B.A., summa cum laude in political science from Wright State University and her J.D., summa cum laude from the University of Dayton. She also received additional graduate education at the University of Virginia. Judge Huffman also has completed training as a mediator at the National Judicial College and Comprehensive Drug Court Judicial Training through the National Drug Court Institute.

Judge Huffman is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Dayton Bar Association, and the Inns of Court. She has taught continuing legal education seminars for the Dayton Bar Association and the Ohio Judicial Conference and served as the co-chair of the 2004 Bench/Bar Conference. She serves as a member of the Judicial Advisory Group for the Ohio Judicial Conference. Judge Huffman is an adjunct faculty member at  the University of Dayton School of Law, where she teaches Business Organizations, Landlord Tenant Law, Evidence and Trial Practice, Adoption Law, and Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiation. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project and serves as the President of the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association and the Miami Valley Youth Soccer Association. 

In 2007 Judge Huffman received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Dayton School of Law Alumni Association. In 2008 she was honored by the students at the University of Dayton School of Law with their Commitment to the Community Award.

Judge Huffman is the author of Immunity and Mental Health Professionals, 33 U. Dayton L.R. (2008), and Social Host Liability for the Negligent Acts of Intoxicated Minors - Mitseff v. Wheeler, 14 U. Dayton L.R. (1988).
