UDSL will hold the 20th Annual Honorable Carl D. Kessler Scholarship Golf Tournament and the 31st Annual Dean’s Classic Softball Tournament the weekend of September 25-27, 2009. Alumni, students and faculty should start forming teams now to enter to compete in this year’s activities.
All registration and fees must be received before September 18.
The scramble-style Kessler Golf Tournament takes place at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace and begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 25. Dinner will be held after the tournament at 6 p.m. Teams of four may start forming for the outing. Individuals may also register and will be paired by the tournament director.
Each participant will receive a golf shirt and hat, and the winning team will be awarded the Joseph E. Connelly Cup. Additional prizes will be presented for the longest drive and closest tee shot to the pin. All golfers will be eligible to win a grand prize.
Registration for golf and dinner is $135 per person and $70 per UDSL student. All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Hon. Carl D. Kessler Scholarship Fund at the University of Dayton School of Law.
Last year’s tournament drew 84 golfers, including four student teams, the largest number of student teams that have participated. The tournament raised more than $10,000 in scholarship money for the School. The student team of Jason Basil, Aaron Hill, Roddy Steiger and Craig Stramburg won for the second time in three years.
This year’s Dean’s Classic Softball Tournament will be held in a new location, the Action Sports Center, 1103 Gateway Drive in Dayton. The tournament begins Saturday, September 26, at 8:30 a.m.; the last game of the day will be played at 7 p.m. Play will continue on Sunday, September 27, at 8 a.m. The championship game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Alumni teams may register for $155 per team and student teams may register for $90 per team.
The Dean’s Classic is a co-ed, low-competitive softball tournament that provides the opportunity for UDSL alumni and students to build relationships in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. All players are rewarded by their sportsmanlike participation.
All teams that enter the Dean’s Classic must consist of at least 10 players, and each player must be affiliated with UDSL, including students, faculty, staff or spouses or significant others. Two women from each team must be in the game at all times.
Last year, 11 teams participated in the tournament with the LexisNexis alumni team winning for the second year in a row.
