The past three decades have seen an explosion in the use of alternative methods of preventing and resolving disputes.

• Courts now mandate the use of mediation, arbitration, etc. in a variety of situations. 
  
  
• It's no longer a question whether alternative methods of dispute resolution should be used, but rather which methods will most effectively and efficiently resolve a given dispute. 
  
  

We provide our students with the tools necessary to determine the most appropriate method of dispute resolution by requiring each student to take a course in dispute resolution geared to his or her area of practice.

• ADR for Litigators (Advocacy and Dispute Resolution track)
  • Basic survey of methods of dispute resolution
  • Emphasizes representing clients in the pretrial setting
    
    
• Interviewing, Counseling, and Negotiation (Personal and Transactional Law track)
  • Focuses on the interpersonal communication skills needed by general practitioners 
  • Emphasizes the negotiation of transactions
    
    
• ADR & Conflict Management (Intellectual Property, Cyberlaw and Creativity track)
  • Introduces the corporate perspective on stepped processes
  • Emphasizes disputes relating to intellectual property
