Tim Swensen joined the School of Law staff as Director of Career Services in August 2004 from Kansas City, where he was a lawyer at Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin. There he practiced commercial litigation, medical malpractice defense, real estate, and utility matters before Public Service Commissions, representing companies like Applebees, Hallmark, and Kansas City Power & Light. Mr. Swensen was also a member of the firm's recruiting and hiring committees and the summer associate mentoring program. He volunteered his time outside of work to the University of Missouri (Kansas City) Law School's mentoring, mock interview, and appellate advocacy programs.
As Director of Career Services, he helps students access and make the best use of resources in their employment searches. Mr. Swensen helps students prepare for interviews and write materials, including resumes, to send to employers. He also facilitates interviews between employers and students. “We want potential employers to take a serious look at our students,” he says.
Before going to law school at Vanderbilt University, where he was Editor of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, Class Representative on the Student Council, and President of the Honor Council, Mr. Swensen was a mental health therapist for five years in Darke County, Ohio. He also worked as a clinical psychology intern in the Department of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Now back in the Dayton area, Mr. Swensen says he likes living closer to his family in Greenville, Ohio, and Indiana.
