September 24, 2009
6-7 p.m.: Appetizers and cocktails
7-8:30 p.m.: Guest Speaker Shubha Ghosh, followed by a hearty debate
Recent Supreme Court decisions and the way intellectual property and patent law are being taught are causing the study and practice of intellectual property to go through a third phase, says Kelly Henrici, director of the University of Dayton School of Law's Program in Law and Technology. "First, IP was at the margins of law school curricula. Then, there was a battle about where IP should fall — property or a different category," Henrici says. "Now, everyone is taking a look at how IP interacts with business law and entrepreneurship."
Shubha Ghosh, associate director of the Initiative for Studies in Transformational Entrepreneurship and University of Wisconsin Law School professor, will discuss the latest phase of intellectual property during “IP 3.0: The Competitive Use of Intellectual Property to Promote Innovation” on Thursday, September 24.
The program, sponsored by Porter Wright, the Hubert A. and Gladys C. Estabrook Charitable Trust and the UDSL’s Intellectual Property Law Society and the Program in Law in Technology, will be held in the Albert H. Scharrer Atrium in Keller Hall.
Registration is $50. Participants will receive 1.5 hours of continuing legal education credit. The deadline to register is Tuesday, September 22.
To register, contact Nan Holler-Potter at 937-229-4676 or visit the program's online registration page.
