The University of Dayton School of Law, accredited by the ABA and a member of the AALS, is an integral part of the University of Dayton, a Catholic university founded by members of the Society of Mary in 1850. We share the University's commitment to serving others and offering an education that blends theory and practice. Our mission has important implications for how law is taught here - and how you can expect to be treated as a student. We focus on attention to the individual - from first contact to well beyond graduation.
Our entire faculty and student services team focuses on ensuring that each of our students is prepared to serve as a problem-solving leader with ethics and integrity. Our faculty members are consistently praised for their high-quality teaching and willingness to take an active interest in students' lives outside the classroom. We encourage our students to become servant leaders in their communities, promoting justice and serving others.
UDSL offers a strong core academic program in a beautiful, technologically sophisticated facility. But it is the people and programs that make us distinctive by assisting students in becoming outstanding lawyers. Like the University, we also highly value the role of faculty as teachers and mentors, as well as scholars. Our Academic Excellence Program begins preparing participating law students for the rigors of legal study long before the first day of classes.
UDSL offers a dynamic Program in Law and Technology (PILT), which has been ranked nationally. PILT offers: an internationally respected faculty; a myriad of special events featuring experts in intellectual property, patent and cyberspace law; specialized moot court teams; and exciting externship opportunities.
The Zimmerman Law Library offers a large collection of volumes and robust wireless internet access to meet our students' research needs. UDSL's Law Clinic enables students to provide an important service to the community while developing essential lawyering skills through the representation of real clients in civil and criminal cases under the supervision of law faculty who are actively engaged in the practice of law. The support network extends well beyond the beautiful, technologically sophisticated law building and into the legal community. Highly respected lawyers and judges, who serve as adjunct professors, work with student projects, provide employment opportunities, and mentor our students in many ways, including through participation in Partners in the Profession, which provides each UDSL student with two mentors from the Dayton Bar Association.
As a law school with a growing reputation, we are committed to developing and offering outstanding programs of study. We continually invest in those areas most important to the education of our students - our dedicated faculty, our innovative curriculum, and the physical environment in which our students’ education takes place.
