As Assistant Dean and Director of Admissions & Financial Aid, Janet Hein is responsible for recruiting and admitting each year’s entering class. She also awards scholarships for the entire student body, and creates and publishes all material relevant to the admissions process, including bulletins, CDs, and the admissions website. She enjoys the personal contact with applicants and students. “I love seeing the students grow and mature throughout their legal education,” she says.

Ms. Hein was attracted to the university by the people. “Within my first week,” she says, “almost everyone I came in contact with, in Keller Hall and throughout campus, knew my name.” She believes the individual treatment she received is not unusual. “It’s reflected in how UDSL treats applicants and incoming law students,” she says. Before coming to the School of Law, Ms. Hein worked at the University of Minnesota Law School, where she was the Assistant Director of Admissions for 13 years.

When not at work, she enjoys attending cultural and art events, especially the theater. Holding a degree in dance and fine arts, Ms. Hein has had more than 20 years of dance training and has choreographed for high schools, community theaters, and colleges.
