• All candidates for the M.S.L. degree are required to have at least a bachelor’s (i.e a post-secondary college or university) degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or from a foreign university authorized to confer such a degree by the government of the country in which it is located.
  
• All candidates for the M.S.L. program must demonstrate competitive performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or some other similar test.  Results from graduate admission tests administered by foreign countries or institutions may, in the discretion of the Associate Dean and the Director of Graduate Programs at the School of Law, be considered in lieu of the above listed tests.  The Associate Dean and the PLT Graduate Studies Committee at the School of Law will consult with other appropriate offices at the University when evaluating the results of admissions tests.  This requirement concerning standardized admissions tests may be waived only in extraordinary circumstances.  The University of Dayton School of Law reporting code for GRE test results is 0002.  Our reporting code for GMAT test results is KF2-36-44.  Information on the GRE test can be found at: www.ets.org/gre.  Information on the GMAT can be found at www.mba.com .
  
• All candidates for the M.S.L. degree must be fluent in the English language.  For foreign students whose native language is not English, this requirement may be met:

-  By having completed their basic legal or baccalaureate studies in a university where instruction was in English.

-  By taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test administered by the Educational Testing Service and attaining a score of at least 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based) or 100 (iBT) or by taking an equivalent exam with similar results.  Scores from TOEFL or other tests more than two years prior to application to the program will not be accepted.  The University of Dayton reporting code for TOEFL test results is 1834.   Information on the TOEFL can be found at: www.ets.org/toefl.   For more information on the TOEFL and English language instruction click here.

• All candidates will be evaluated for admission on academic and personal criteria including law school and university transcripts, prior academic performance as demonstrated by indices such as an acceptable grade point average (GPA) in relevant course work, standardized test performance where appropriate, other academic records, employment experience and other personal accomplishments.
