A new building project adjacent to UD’s campus will mean more choices for living, eating, and shopping by the start of fall semester. University Place, the two-story building split between retail and living space, is located on the corner of Brown and Stewart streets, across from the UD arch.

Developer Jason Woodard with Miller-Valentine Group says that construction on the project will be completed by July 1, 2007.  Interior work on the first-floor retail space will continue beyond that date. 

“I think that University Place will continue to add quality restaurants and retail uses to the area as well as services that will support UD, Miami Valley Hospital, Cox Ohio and other businesses in the area,” Woodard said. “From a physical standpoint, I think the building provides a nice transition from the retail development on the west side of Brown Street to the institutional buildings of the University.”

The two-block building holds a total of 48 units on the second floor; two are 2-bedroom units and the others are a mixture of studios and 1-bedroom units. Studio apartments rent for $855 per month and 1-bedroom apartments rent for $924 per month. The prices are high for the area, but amenities include a fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, reserved gated parking, controlled entry access, wireless internet service, central air conditioning, and resident laundry and community centers. Woodard says that 40% of the units have already been leased.
 
The street level spaces will be a mixture of retail uses including restaurants, a bank, and a UD spirit shop. For more information about University Place and to see pictures, visit www.mvg.com.
